If Gillespie doesn't sign a new contract we could do a lot worse than trying to get Sam Slocombe that Scunthorpe have just released, only 25, and a very good keeper whenever I've seen him play. I'd rather see us go for an older experienced Mervyn Day/David James/Neil Sullivan type on their way down from playing at a much higher level. We've badly needed an organiser at the back, someone with a cool head that can read the game fast and get the back four into position, also someone the younger defensive players can look up to. Wouldn't be upset at keeping Gillespie mind you, but if he went I'd want his replacement to have knowledge, not another kid that's learning the trade that the already shaky back four isn't confident in. So you'd rather go for someone past it looking for a final payday, than a keeper than is very good now and has bags of potential ? Slocombe isn't a kid learning his trade, he has made over 100 appearences for Scunthorpe, mainly in league 1, and a few in the championship so I'd dare to say he knows what he is doing. Only reason they released him is because they signed someone better when he broke his arm. In my opinion he would be a perfect replacement IF Gillespie leaves, and even if he doesn't Slocombe isn't as injury prone.

Alright, alright! Calm down. Wasn't meant as a dig at the player your mentioning, (for the record I've never seen him) or at you for that matter FFS. In answer to your grouchy response, no, but there are older players and then there are older players.... Day was a decent keeper for us, did exactly the kind of role I'd like us to have again... Neil Sullivan was superb for Doncaster Rovers...he ran their quite tight defence as it happens. That's the kind of player I'm talking about...granted we've been found severely wanting in the "Quality" recruitment department recently (again I'm not sure there's anything that fits the bill yet available) but I'd rather have a steadying influence at the back and someone experienced (not just a 100 games in one of the bargain bucket leagues) ideally at a higher level, usually they play at that level because they can read the game well and they communicate well..we need that badly. Someone like that also brings on the likes of Gillespie and Hanford because they help them out in training too, so your "up and coming" get help developing, they also have enough experience that the back four know they can trust them, that gives a massive boost to the defence if they can concentrate on their job not worry about other things. All hypothetical until Gillespie leaves, IF Gillespie leaves.

Led to believe that we have contacted grant holt about signing him. He is keen but there is a number of stumbling blocks i.e his wage at wigan and his recovery from injury. Not forgetting the fact he doesn't want to play for us

Just think we should bee looking for players that have some potential to improve and possibly sell on rather than ending their careers with us. Hopefully as we are going to basically be signing a new team AGAIN we will be able to get quality across the team. I wouldn't mind having Madine back if he would come

I bet we sign Ashley Grimes freed by Walsall. I would say Madine will be wanting a League One side at worst.

Madine's career has gone horribly down the drain of late. Is there that tiny, tiny chance that he wants to rebuild and prove himself and then work his way up to the Championship again, perhaps starting at his beloved Carlisle?

Nadine really likes Carlisle, but I don't think that will be enough to get him to join us, if he did he would walk league 2 Even when he came back on loan he was looked a class above even though he wasn't fit.

It would be hilarious if he came as he's way too good for this league. Not happening though I would imagine, although I can dream.

Febian Brandy would be a hell of a signing for a League 2 club Got to ask why he has had so many clubs and constantly getting released, another Amoo pace and no heart ?

Daniel Carr had a trial at Liverpool couple of seasons ago and I have always liked Jon Stead but he just doesn't score enough goals for a striker.

Yeah I think he's just a better Amoo, he'd probably have a whale of a time in League 2. Did alright for Walsall I think it was and has been living off that since but he's probably due another good season soon.

Well we do need pace going forward. Our squad is seriously lacking it.

Can't believe Bristol City have released Emmanuel Thomas - 24 years old, 22 goals last season and then 12 this season and a few of them were pretty cracking goals if I remember correctly. He was brutal against us in the 4-2 last season. I'd be surprised if he didn't go to another Championship team which is what makes it all the more baffling.

That's a surprise wasn't he the big lad who ripped us a apart last season and 12 goals in 48 appearances this season

Everyone around here also call them Scotch too so Mojo was right in the first first place. As for Jay Emannuel Thomas - absolutely no chance. Bloke would want 5K a week. sorry Scotch is incorrect it is not correct because a load of West Cumbrians call them it incorrectly
