I set up a forum (http://carlisleforum.com) hosted on my own server a few years ago, and after a brief spurt of activity everyone stopped using it and went back to the footymad one. Despite mine being a much better system, with no ads, private messageing, polls etc, and mobile friendly. I guess people will go back to what they're familiar with. I've already heard from one supporter who says he won't use any forum other than the footymad one, despite all the problems there.
If the admin here had asked I'd have given him moderator status on mine to avoid having to set up a new one. In my opinion having a proper independent forum that's not relying on ad support, or a big company that's in it to make money (such as the place this is hosted), is preferable.

In one respect FootyMad towers above all the other Football messageboard internet sites. It is a federal system. After you have signed up to FootyMad you are just a couple of clicks away from the messageboard of any significant club in Britain. Thus you can have banter with the supporters of the team that we have just played or are about to play etc. FootyMad contains the unofficial (and better for that) messageboard of nearly every club in the top 5 tiers of England and quite a few below that level. Scottish and Welsh football is also very well represented.
Despite all its faults / problems FootyMad being a federal system will always have a greater total appeal than this Proboards system. The number of football clubs on Proboards is nowhere near the number on FootyMad. The further fundamental disadvantage of Proboards is that each club board is an isolated entity. To access each individual club board you need to sign up to that particular board and sign in to each individual board.
Whilst it is true that some FootyMad boards are totally ignored and fans have created their own popular sites the overwhelming majority of FootyMad boards are well used.
I point out these things not in criticism but it is a sobering reality that as long as FootyMad remains in existence it will dominate the scene.
As for the FootyMad current problems they are trying out their new server by just putting the Burnley and Newcastle United boards on line for a while. Maybe other boards can be accessed by starting at these two boards.
The longer that FootyMad remains broken the greater the chance is that this board can get established. There will clearly be a split of support if / when FootyMad returns. Some people will use both boards and some will choose one of the two. Clearly there are people who some FootyMad moderators have legitimately banned and others who the moderators simply do not like, also banned. There are also those that do not like the FootyMad moderators. Thus there is room for boards such as this and FootyMad.

Very few clubs have footymad as their main messageboard. Very few have "hosted" forums such as this as their main board. I've always thought it to be very small time that Carlisle's only well used forum is the footymad one. A modern forum on a unique domain is by far the most popular for most clubs, certainly at this level and above.
I've been running football websites since 1997, and the footymad forum is similar to something I had running in 2001. They just haven't moved with the times, and they seem to be concentrating on how to make the adverts as annoying as possible instead of providing a good service.

well I hope that this site can take off, imo as just a reader of the other site it had gone stale and it was dominated by anti everything posters, maybe brought on by the Abbott era.

I'm sure this will be a good place, as long as the ads keep away

Alf a quick question
Does Adblock allow you to block the ads on an individual site like fooymad or does it automatically block all the ads on all sites that you visit ?

The Carlislemad sites death knell was written nearly 10 years ago when the present Mod banned his best contibutor was told by the then club owner that if he let him back on to the board the site and its mod would be denied any access or co operation from the club.
The word spineless is the one that springs to mind

AdblockPlus acts on all sites automatically and cannot have its function restricted. It does not work fully on every category of advert but it seems to be the best of its type.

Wasn't THEBIGBLUE a bit of a problem approximately 4 years ago with his general demeanour and also with his allegations about a former manager? This was rumoured to annoy Bob The Builder.

i think kickabout is to celebrate it 10th year this coming year. we'd been using the 'Neil' and had moved on by the time the flood happened in '05.

The Builders problems with TBB had nothing to do with "the former manager " situation or any catering contracts it was stuff that had happened well before then that TBB knew about and the builder couldnt afford to become common knowledge.
Most people who were around at the time and were in the know knew that TBB knew things from his time as a confidente of the previous owner, his connections with the Trust and being on the S.C. management committee
For example somthing that he once wrote about and that still hasnt been answered and that still affects the club to this day.
Before the works after the floods the car park wasnt designated as " flood plain " after the works it was and this decimated not only that lands value but indirectly affected the value of the whole site as if you belive what is said from the boardroom recently it makes the whole site now no longer viable as a site for a stadium and any sort of enabling development.
So when this happens the Environment Agency are liable to pay compensation for such and as the amount of value the land has lost amounts to millions of pounds surely the compensation would too. Now if what was said is true a penny never mind a million pounds has ever appeared on the clubs [ or indeed the holding companies for that matter ] accounts.
Perhaps the builder or one of his puppets might like to explain where the money went or if their answer is we never got any then answer the question why not.
And while were on the subject do any of you really believe that the buider isnt still the one ultimately pulling the strings at Brunton Park in order to protect his Multi Million pound asset and is the real reason that in the time since he passed "ownership" to the puppets they have been unable to find investment.
Look at the Guy who took over at Bury last summer and what he paid and then tell me if that for the same investment youd offered him C.U.F.C he wouldnt of chosen the Cumbrian option instead.
There are a lot of people who were on the Footmad site 10 years ago who like myself and the likes of TBB who have not only disappeared from the board but also as attenders at matches as supporters of the club because for one reason or another we belive that on any number of issues the clubs fans are being treat like mushrooms ie kept in the dark and fed nothing but bullshit.
