Same here. Probably why we're playing them in a friendly (part of the deal).
Top off a great few week, that.

And thus the need for Lappings rainy day money is no more, two undisclosed fees, money in the bank and the owners continue under much less financial pressure. Mystery investor was needed to stall to ensure Lapping wasnt too far down the line before these two deals were signed.

If he has gone for talks doesn't that mean we've accepted a fee for him?

To lose both Potts and Dempsey would be disastrous. One would have been acceptable, so now we've lost Potts it's vital we keep hold of Dempsey.
There'd be absolutely zero creativity left in the squad, we'd be relegation certainties.

My first thought when I heard about Potts was 'I'm not that arsed really, we've still got Dempsey'.
I'll be absolutely gutted if he goes. He's the sort of player we need to be building our team around for next season.

Massive, massive loss if he goes. We cant replace a player of his quality in our current situation.

Under the Lapping setup we'd probably be able to tell these clubs to get f.cked. With Nixon running the show, he'll be getting whatever he can for our good young players. Brough will be next, you watch.

I still think it's far too early in his career to go to the championship. He's been a pro for one season.
I also think it's far too early for us to sell. Keep him another year and his value could double.

He is the type of player we need to be selling for 5m in 2 seasons time, not a ******* friendly game and a set of strips from ******* sondico. Utter ******s

Abysmal decision if we let him go. Nothing on the nobbers forum about this though, at least nothing recent.
Cue bullsh1t 'justification' about offers too good to refuse, selling early enough that we can 'replace' him and finally that old pearler about 'not standing in the lads way' or some such nonsense.
If it happens, of course...

If he is being sold it has to be £1 million plus he's too good to let go for a couple hundred thousand

The new lad tweeted today about the clubs big ambitions.
It just shows how much we have to bullshit to even persuade players at conference clubs to join us!

And still no news or communication with the fans or even a glimmer of hope. We will have a workmanlike team this season which will see us somewhere in the bottom half.

I don't get why Dempsey would sign up if he planned on leaving, it makes the move so much more difficult for him that we don't have to sell him and therefore can ask for much more. I can't see it happening personally.

Could've been a case of 'I'll sign but any interest and you have to inform me' or 'If you sign, we'll let you know of any interest'?

Could've been a case of 'I'll sign but any interest and you have to inform me' or 'If you sign, we'll let you know of any interest'? But surely he either wants to leave or doesn't? If he does then he runs his contract down, if he doesn't then he signs. I don't think there was ever any doubt that there'd be interest from other clubs, but if he had any intention of going he's just made it a hell of a lot more difficult for himself.

I don't think anybody could seriously blame him if he got a move to a Championship team. I'd be disappointed if he left us now to go to a League 1 team, but not the Championship. Without Dempsey last season, we'd be getting ready for Conference football this season, no doubt about it.

Contracts mean nothing. Suarez signed for Liverpool on a long term deal saying he wanted to stay for years and then left 6 months later. For the player they are guaranteed better terms if they dont get a move, for the club they can command a bigger fee if someone does come in for them.
It would only be more difficult if we were determined to keep him. But are a completely skint club going to turn down a good offer and keep a player who doesn't want to be here anymore? Mabye under Lapping we would have refused to sell, but defiantly not under Nixon. For the current board, all the new contract does is put us in a better negotiating position in terms of the fee.
