He should of been subbed on boxing day. He's lazy, looks unfit and doesn't even try at times. I know we hoof it up to him most the time but on boxing day he wasn't even challenging for headers most the time. Some people on here say the general service to him is poor but on Thursday there was some great crosses into the box and he was not even trying to get on the end of them, a decent striker would be anticipating where the ball is going but not him he wasn't even making the run.
I know we don't have great options in the striker department but someone who puts a bit of effort in would be nice, time to drop the big time Charlie for someone who actually tries a bit.

You're spot on but the problem is he's still better than Guy and Beck.

correct mush. Beck must be 4 or 5 inches taller and would at least attempt to attack some of the high balls. as for thursday, Amoo didn't do much of note but he did deliver 2 or 3 cracking crosses right into the heart of the box where a decent striker would anticipate the ball to be only to find miller 10 yards back.

Miller has gone backwards, whether this is due to injuries sustained is debatable but the fact remains is that he is not performing as he once did. If he is to be effective he needs support something that is lacking at the moment. As a result he seems not to bother as he knows even if he wins the ball no one will get the knock on. Mind you that is no excuse to not make the runs and anticipate crosses into the box that is just lazy. I really hoped for a change under Kav but it seems to be more of the same even the interviews are starting to sound similar.

Well its interesting how people see the game differently. I thought Miller player well he didnt have his greatest and not his worse game. However what is evident is the need for a quality player to link up with miller and u will start to see much more of the old Miller. Much to millers success in the first year was having that player around him i.e zoko.

he didn't have his best game, no. he had Amoo and Lawrence supporting him on thursday but Prestons game plan was to double mark them all game and leave Miller isolated, that's where a good manager earns his salt by seeing that and changing his tactics and options accordingly. they controlled the game and forced us to play in the corners thus avoiding any central threat, which in the first half with their keeper shielding his eyes from the sun, was criminal from our point of view.

I didn't think Miller had his best game against the Knobbers but he certainly wasn't the worst player on the pitch. You are correct he needs to make more if an effort to get on the end of some of those crosses, and he needs to stop throwing himself to the deck. HOWEVER, we are a better team with him in the side... He generally holds the ball up well and links play well... Which is essential with our 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation. In that formation the target man needs to stay fairly central to give the formation a focal point... So charging around in the channels would be counter productive. In reality he is our ONLY viable striking option at the moment. Neither Beck nor Guy are anywhere near good enough at holding the ball up and leading the line I'm afraid. Miller may not be playing that well but there is a lot more to being a striker than just putting effort in.... You have to be able to control a football, hold the ball up and link play (that's Beck out) and you have to be a goal threat occasionally (Guy ruled out). We badly need another option in January.

I don't understand how people think Miller is lazy, after the batterings he takes most matches and the effort it takes to be the lone man up front I just dont dee him as lazy. He doesn't run about chasing lost causes but at his age he probably has the judgement to know what he can win and what would be a waste of energy. I think any problem he has this season comes from those two sendings offs he had, which has understandably made him a bit cautious.
Preston was a good example. Miller was mostly marked by number 6, cant remember his name but he was a solid player, who, everytime he and Miller went up for a header led with his knee, unless he was in direct view of the ref. That happened dozens of times during the match. Last season when those sort of antics started, Miller got on top of them fairly quickly. the "i'm an old pro too" type of nudge and shove and things would settle down. This season he can't do that, can't risk another sending off. He could throw himself to the floor but that didn't work on Saturday either. Miller must have been bruised all over his back and got no protection whatsoever, maybe a case of his reputation proceeding him, which is a shame.

Yeah I think you are right Bumble... He has a reputation for going down easily with the refs I think. He was battered all day by their number 6. Illegally most if the time... But the ref allowed Preston to get away with murder.

Agree with everything there bumble but lets be honest he's crying out for a strike partner! He looked shattered for last 15 mins or so as lone frontman and I remember kav saying he wanted 100 percent workrate off miller all be it for 70 minutes rather than 75 percent workrate for the whole 90! I think kav forgot that thursday and should have subbed him for beck before he'd used them all up!

With the amount of crosses/corners we had i would have been tempted to put Beck on to try win a couple.

Thing is i dont think miller or the rest of CUFC know whether he is penalty box striker or target man. When we signed him he traded on being a old fashioned penalty box striker - note the prime example of his debut at orient - two goals from close range. Then Greg decided miller was gonna be a target man but we have never found the ideal foil for this type of player albeit i dont think miller is the type of player some at CUFC think he is. That said with our limited finances we are never gone find a ready made No 9 so miller is as good as it gets for CUFC.

Don't care if he's been good before or if he keeps defenders busy - Can someone give me Lee Millers goal scoring stats over the last 2 seasons and convince me that his goals are going to keep us up ??

if ultimately have to rely on millers goals to keep us up, then quite frankly we're f*cked.

He needs support from the midfield, a player in behind him, somebody who can link with him. Run beyond.
It is no coincidence that we were a real threat vs Brentford and Tranmere, when Lawrence, Amoo, Buaben and Berrett were all running beyond him. He didn't score vs Tranmere, but his link up was fantastic. Why? Because he had players near him.
I agree regarding the effort though, that has to improve. I don't care if he's the lone striker, he has to move and battle a little more. He won't win anything by not moving, or being brushed off the ball so easily.
People say Guy shouldn't play as the lone striker, to an extent I agree, but at the same time I don't agree. He'd have been a better option to Miller vs Preston. Why? Because he'd have run the channels, and actually got in behind. They weren't quick at the back and we didn't take advantage. Sticking it into Miller wasn't working, it was incredibly easy for Huntington and co.
I suppose what I'm getting at is that we have players now that can allow to play different. It's not just same old same old. We've been a very predictable team for too long, let's hope Kavanagh can change that.
