Well they call credit cards pretty much anything with VISA or MasterCard on. I go in some supermarkets and try use my visa debit card and some cashiers will not take them as they say it is a credit card, other times in the same stores there is no problem, like they are confused about them. I have a German bank account but it only has a maestro payment system on the card, if I want a visa/mastercard I actually have to get a Credit Card off them. I just use my English debit card to buy many things here online as a result as I don't want a credit card. When I buy train tickets off dbahn online it sets up a direct debit and the money leaves my account 10 - 14 days later, open to fraud big time like - if I use my debit card then the cash is taken from the available balance instantly. Was similar in Spain, had a visa debit card but used to get credit card charges when depositing in to my euro betfair account and Easyjet.es would never accept it. Have a read on there about France and Germany: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debit_card#France
