Interesting he didn't beat Boardman's wiped record... No one will ever come close to that under the current laws, Boardman and Obree were pioneers, who pushed the laws of the hour to their extremes, both achieved their records within the rules, rules which have been truncated. 54.5km is a special effort.

Interesting he didn't beat Boardman's wiped record... He didn't beat Tony Rominger's best effort either, who unlike Boardman was in a TT position. Mind you, they didn't call him EPO Tony for nothing.

I did 53mph Nenthead to Carrshield yesterday -where do I collect my record?
Seriously, how these people last an hour in the aero position alone is beyond me never mind push at 30+Mph for the hour...their bodies must be screaming by 20 minutes in. Wiggins is probably mentally the toughest I've ever seen...pain just doesn't seem to register, and when it clearly does he just keeps pushing. Wonder if he had a couple of tramadol before the start....

Watched that Superbikes this morning from Portugal, 2 British lads 1st and 2nd. Thought about how hard mentally it must be etc... So different to Football these one man sports.

Tony Martin will surely have a go at some point. Amazes me that more of that ilk haven't already had a shot...you'd think anyone with pedigree in TT would fancy their chances?

None of them without a track background are going to take time out from their professional rode careers to ready themselves for something so unique. Would take someone like Cancellara or Martin at least 6months to prepare themselves, neither has a track background, road riders can struggle to make the switch as easily as if it were the other way round, mid 54km might persuade them to give it a go though, he hasn't knocked it into the long grass, Stella effort mind given the conditions.

Do you think Martin will win stage 1 of The Tour easily?

Do you think Martin will win stage 1 of The Tour easily? Unless it's a hilly TT stage he is always going to be the strong favourite in ITT now. Stage 1 is pan flat.
