Just a heads up for anyone interested (and if you’re not interested seek medical advice). This is the last year that the only remaining airworthy Vulcan bomber will fly. It is due over Carlisle on Saturday 27th June. If you’ve never seen a Vulcan in the sky you have missed out on one of the great sights of aviation, in fact one of the great sights of any description. If you don’t believe me ask anybody who’s seen one. www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances.html

True enough, they're a miracle of engineering....
Always wondered what that one at Carlisle Airport was, anyone any idea? Is it a decommissioned, mothballed or never finished aircraft, or is it actually a model?

The guy who owns it used to run the Engines on a weekend. You can go inside it with a guided tour most weekends during the summer.

Saw one last year during an air show at RNAS Culdrose whilst down in Cornwall. Very impressive, and a heck of a noise!

I was in the RAF when they went out of service. I was at RAF Northcoates at the time, which was a missile base, but a satelite of Binbrook which was where the last active Vulcans were based. Obviously I was able to see quite a lot of them at the time. I later went on to RAF Cottesmore which had Tornados, they were great aircraft, but were never a patch on the Vulcan for style and grace.
Really, if you can see it, and you never have before, a Vulcan in flight is well worth looking at.
