This could actually be the signing of the summer, mainly because he'd be an actual right-back - i'm still in shock at this part of it. Supposedly he's got offers from League 2 clubs and interest from League 1 clubs but as i've said, his manager seems to think he's coming to us.

If this happens it would point to the 5-3-2 formation with Atkinson the RCB and this lad the RB.

Does Miller play wing-back?

If he can play right back he should be able to operate as a wing back. The role is pretty much the same.

Just reading he's a RB who also plays CB as cover, and apparently has a decent long throw on him...

So if we sign him we've got two players that can play at left back, two that can play at right back and about five that can play at centre back (to varying degrees) without counting Troy and CMW.
KC certainly seems to be building on our weakness and strengthening the spine and defence, which has been a priority for a number of seasons now.

So far we've got these players contracted:
Kennedy, Raynes, Joyce, Atkinson, Grainger, Buddle, Brough, Hanford, Rigg, Dempsey, Wyke, Hammell, and hopefully Gillespie and Asamoah still to sign.
If we sign Miller as well as the other two then our team looks something like this:
Gillespie Miller Atkinson Raynes Grainger Brough Kennedy Dempsey Joyce Wyke Rigg
That's before we sign a few more players, hopefully get rid of a few and also probably get some decent money for Potts.

Transfer list is: Troy, Sweeney, Kearns, Paynter, Dicker, CMW, Beck and Griffith. Realistically we'd be lucky to get rid of Troy, Dicker, CMW, Kearns and Beck and even those will be a struggle considering the wage they'll be on here. Griffith, Sweeney and Paynter are here to stay solely because nobody else is stupid enough to offer them the wages we'll have them on.

Reckon Paynter will get a move, purely on reputation.
Just wonder when Barrow are gonna come calling

A few on that transfer list may well come good should we get off to a decent start. Of course, they may not either...

I've a feeling if CMW hasn't gone by preseason he might benefit from being transfer listed. It might be the kick up the arse he's needed. We all know he's got the ability. He seemed to perform out of his skin in his first month, then got the 2 and a half year deal and it's been downhill since. It's as if when he got the contract he thought he'd made it so slacked off.
Last season transfer listing O'Hanlon seemed to bring some improved performances. Not enough to get a new deal but still much better than before he was listed.

We have not done too badly scoring over the last couple of seasons but no good if we concede more than we score.
Build from the back, hope fully this is KCs' thinking.
30 odd 1-0's would do me.

30 odd 1-0's would do me. No that's not good enough, I want at least a 4 goal margin in at least 40 victories. Curle out.

Last season transfer listing O'Hanlon seemed to bring some improved performances. Not enough to get a new deal but still much better than before he was listed. It isn't too long ago that people were saying that CMW is more talented than Dempsey and Potts thecumbrians.boards.net/thread/3641/meppen-walter-cb-cmHe's made the odd mistake in centre-back but the amount of balls he's had launched at him due to our invisible midfield you would expect that much, especially with him still being inexperienced. Troy made an absolute clanger in a game this season, can't remember which, but a through ball went straight under his foot and they scored directly from it. He barely got any stick for it from what I remember, and yet when CMW makes a mistake he's instantly subbed off and blamed in the post-match. With Joyce and Kennedy signed we should have a much more defensively sound midfield, and Raynes would be next to him in centre-back to help him out and lend some experience. It seems ridiculous that we'd let him go for free when there's clearly a talent beyond this league in there somewhere. I'd like Curle to give him a proper go in pre-season and at the start of next season and see how he does, because he could and possibly should be one of our best players.

That's two managers now that dont seem to rate CMW as highly as the fans do. I think he's a good player but I not sure where to play him to get the best out of him

In my view he's a centre back. He did ok in midfield but with his attributes he'll go further in his career as a CB

That's two managers now that dont seem to rate CMW as highly as the fans do. I think he's a good player but I not sure where to play him to get the best out of him I don't think it's fair to properly judge cmw for a few reasons, he's been only ever playing in a team fighting relegation & he never really has had a run of games in a settled defence with a settled midfield sitting in front of him. as someone else pointed out, cmw playing in a back 5 along side grainger Raynes or Troy with Kennedy and Joyce sitting in front would benefit hugely front the protection and cohesion this would bring. I've mentioned a few times on here previously, the teams which challenged at top of league 2 last year had 8 or 9 players who started over 30 league games, we had 3. Continuity in team selection is key for a good campaign next season. on potential miller signing, I think he'd be a good signing, young, experienced in conference, highly regarded at Lincoln, if signed he'd bring with him a good attitude and not too much ego, similar I would hope to Atkinson, buddle, rayes, Joyce, Kennedy. key next on the signings is clarity on Potts and Gillespie - either they're in our off and we can plan accordingly, fon Williams is who I'd be after.

CMW has been told he's not in Curle's plans for next season. Somebody I spoke with at the club wasn't even sure whether they'd see him back at the club again.

Would CMW not be best played as a sweeper. 3 centre backs takes the pressure off him to battle with centre forwards and frees him up for his cultured play.

Well one thing that I would say about Meppen-Walter is that players such as Buddle and Atkinson started doing fitness work over a week ago to try and make sure they've got a place in the team; CMW has been at Parklife this weekend. There has to be an attitude problem, I don't know why else someone with his natural talent wouldn't have made it here by now.
