Lots of footballers play with broken toes... it depends where the break is. I played for 2 months with one at amatuer level.. painful for the first few minutes and then it was okay. Hurt like hell the next day though. There have been lots of players who had to play whlst not 100% fit for several games over the last couple of seasons, but Potts is the only one who has used it as an excuse for poor form. Most players just keep it quiet so you never know. O'Hanlon frequently played through injury last season, even when he was getting hammered by the fans for playing badly, but he never allowed the story to get out as an excuse for form. Let's face it Pott's doesn't want to be here any more... just take the money and move on.

It was Curle who kept mentioning it to show fans how committed Potts was by agreeing to play through it. He would then have been asked by journalists at every opportunity if the injury was affecting him. I don't recall Potts volunteering the information himself.

It's not like Carlisle fans haven't turned on players who have looked like they are going to leave on a free, and tried to use everything to make them out to be ungrateful, lazy etc.
It's happening with Potts, it happened with Graham, it happened with Muller (until he signed a new contract) and it will probably happen again next year with Dempsey if he doesn't sign again.

Was that Gerd Muller, or Thomas?

Obvious typo. Meant Miller

It happened to Graham and Potts because they were not trying. Miller more down to age and the whole summer not returning calls while Abbott embarrassingly chased him, I don't remember players like Garner or Westwood getting much stick off fans.

But several have mentioned this information coming from his family. Personally I'm not bothered. I don't blame the lad for wanting to leave to have a crack at a higher level on a better contract. When you know you are leaving it must be difficult to concentrate on your form etc. and there seems no doubt he has had a minor injury.

Opinion really, Graham had a dry spell, which he did a couple of times with us. Potts could just been out of form, as i've said before, it seems that he was often pinpointed by fans when other players had just as bad games. Garner and Westwood were both sold, they didn't leave on frees.

If fon Williams is a good keeper get him signed up. As I understand the rules we made an offer to Gillespie so we are entitled to compensation, is that not right?

True on Garner but he could have signed for Carlisle instead of Preston when on loan from Watford but 99% of fans didn't resent him not doing. I thought Westwood let his contract run out but we got a fee due to his age the same as Potts (and Gillespie who in my opinion has kept trying when selected).
Potts has been out of form but it's the backing out of tackles, lack of concentration and awful body language which says doesn't want to be here more than a bad pass or shot.
It is opinion but to me fans don't turn just because players haven't signed. I've complained about Amoo's effort and I'm glad he hasn't had the chance to sign!

If Potts definitely wants away then why didn't he say he wanted away and wasn't signing instead of us looking stupid offering contract after contract?

That's what I mean, he has said in interviews that he will be happy to stay. But his agent could easily he saying, don't sign that you could get better. You can hardly blame him if his head has been turned.

i thought Westwood let his contract run out but we got a fee due to his age I think if I remember rightly we sold him for about 750k with a year left on his contract. I think if he'd stayed and let his deal expire the following summer he would have been over age so we'd have got f all

OK, Westwood must have made his intentions clear to the club at an early stage so fair play to him for that.

The club could just as likely assumed that he would leave if a higher club came in, and didn't want to lose him for free.

Obviously any half competently ran club would offer Westwood a contract by that stage......
Oh right, I see.
