Good evening all,
As some of you will be aware, this ProBoards forum is due to close within the next couple of weeks. The www.thecumbrians.net website has been redesigned by a local web designer, and has it's own integrated forum. There are a huge number of benefits for using an integrated forum, and I hope that those benefits, in time, will massively outweigh any initial drawbacks.
I'll try and include as much information here as possible; however if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll answer them as best I can.
The first, and most important question - why am I closing this forum?
I couldn't continue to run it through ProBoards. The features on the Admin side are very restrictive, and makes my job very difficult when it comes to approving registrations, and managing multi-accounts. In addition, the registration process currently leaves me in a very difficult position legally, with regards defamatory content. There's always been the risk of ProBoards themselves just closing the forum down, should it be reported - with no warning. Our own integrated forum completely removes this risk.
When will this forum close down?
The aim is to close this forum, and open the new forum on Sunday 21st June 2015.
Where can you find the new forum?
The new forum will be integrated into the www.thecumbrians.net website. Many of you will have seen the website before, many of you may just come direct here through ProBoards. Anybody visiting this forum when the new one goes live will be re-directed accordingly.
Will you need to register on the new forum again?
Unfortunately yes. ProBoards is bespoke forum software that cannot be migrated across to another platform. This means that it isn't possible for us to migrate any user date/content across on the new forum. I hope you find the registration process straight forward enough - it offers Facebook integration for login, which you may have come across on other websites. You do not have to use this if you don't want to, or if you don't use Facebook. It is there for those who choose to do so.
How long will it take to register?
It will typically take 24-48 hours from registering, to being approved and being able to post on the forum. Whilst the forum itself will be locked until Sunday 21st June, I will be opening up forum registrations at least 1 week in advance to allow you to register beforehand and get posting as soon as the forum is unlocked.
Will your post count be carried over to the new forum?
Despite best efforts, it's simply been impossible to arrange this. All users will start from 0.
What else will the website be used for?
As well as the forum, the website will have a lot more content. There's a chat facility for instant chat. This not only includes a chat room for match days, but also a user-to-user instant chat facility, similar to Facebook. We'll be running competitions direct on the site, as well as some other club information, such as fixtures/results, contract lengths etc.
Am I looking for additional Moderators for the new site?
Yes, if you're interested in offering your services as a Moderator, please email me at info@thecumbrians.net, or PM me directly on this forum. You should be relatively active, ideally visiting the forum at least a couple of times a day. Being a frequent poster is not a necessity. The Moderator position is voluntary.
If anybody has any other questions, please fire away. Apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause you during the transition to the new board; however I assure you I would not be doing it (and forking out my own cash) if it wasn't absolutely necessary.
Thanks
Mike
